About Ms. Brooks
Jess Brooks is a cross-trained vocalist and instrumentalist. Mentored by Doug Beach and Susan Moninger and holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Elmhurst College, Brooks was the vocalist for the internationally acclaimed Elmhurst College Jazz Band for the latter three years of her collegiate career. During which, Brooks has performed in Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Mexico, and across the United States. In 2019, Brooks was named an Outstanding Soloist in the 2019 DownBeat Student Music Awards in the Solo Jazz Voice category. She has shared the stage with the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mike and Leni Stern, Doc Severinsen, Renée Fleming, Ryan Truesdell, Mark Colby, and Byron Stripling. Brooks resides near Chicago and works as a freelance artist, educator, clinician, and enjoys painting and attending live music events in the city.
About Lessons
- Private 20-minute lessons will be scheduled during the school day or after school and held in a practice room.
- The fee is $15.00/lesson. Several payment options are available.
- Lessons will focus on developing and strengthening vocal technique and musicianship.
- A wide variety of genres will be used in lessons, including jazz, classical, folk and musical theater.
- Coaching is available on music for choir, musicals, contests, auditions, etc.
LESSON RATES
Lessons will take place ONCE PER WEEK for a time slot of 20 MINUTES.
Lessons cost a competitive rate of $15.00 for one 20-minute lesson (most area teachers charge $30.00 or more). This cost pays for all materials, training, performance opportunities, and rehearsal accompanist services.
Payments may be made either weekly, OR bi-weekly, with either a check made out to my name, Jessica Brooks, or in cash.

Lesson Policy
NON-EMERGENCY Cancellations require a 24-hour notice prior to your lesson time.
NON-EMERGENCY Cancellations WITHIN 24 hours prior to your lesson time will be counted as a No-Show, which will result in being charged for your lesson.
NO-SHOWS with no communication will result in being charged for your lesson.
EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS (Illness, verifiable family emergency, or other unforeseen circumstances) will be handled on an individual basis.
NON-EMERGENCY Cancellations WITHIN 24 hours prior to your lesson time will be counted as a No-Show, which will result in being charged for your lesson.
NO-SHOWS with no communication will result in being charged for your lesson.

Make Up lessons
EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS merit a Make-Up Lesson, which will be scheduled by the student and instructor at an available time within the same week.
NON-EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS (whether they occur within or outside of the 24-hour courtesy period) will not merit a Make-Up Lesson. If the lesson has already been paid for, that payment will be applied to the next scheduled lesson.
As a courtesy, please notify the instructor of all conflicts (sports, rehearsals, activities, other commitments) the Sunday before the lesson week begins via Email.
NON-EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS (whether they occur within or outside of the 24-hour courtesy period) will not merit a Make-Up Lesson. If the lesson has already been paid for, that payment will be applied to the next scheduled lesson.

Work Ethic
It is expected that students practice the material between lessons and bring their music to
lessons. Students should also bring a notebook or loose-leaf paper for the instructor to write
notes about the lessons.
